Crafting a student resume is an important part of the college admissions project. In order to write the best resume possible, read these tips to making a successful college resume.
Plan ahead
Hopefully, you are not about to graduate from high school. Ideally, you should start thinking about your college resume several years ahead of time. Find a handful of extra-curricular activities you like and participate in them. Do not stretch yourself too thin, though. You do not want to join two dozen clubs and then not have the time for any of them! Ideally, you should pick a couple of your favorite activities, and try to take on some type of leadership role or elected office by the time you graduate. This could include captain of a sports team, editor of a literary magazine or president of a club. Sticking with the same activities for several years and rising to a position of leadership shows you are dedicated, responsible and capable of personal growth.
Make a list
When you sit down to write your resume, jot down a list of your activities. Include sports, clubs and volunteer activities. Also include any jobs you may have held, whether or not they were paying jobs. Perhaps your family has a business and you helped out over the years without getting any pay. You can still include this experience. Also, include academic awards and achievements, such as scoring well on a national language exam. Next, look at this list and see if there are any themes you want to develop. Are you the president or captain of several things and want to highlight your leadership? Have you volunteered at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter and want to emphasize your compassion? By picking a theme to highlight, your resume is logical and cogent.

Finally, sit down to write your resume. Do not forget to proofread it for errors before submitting it. It is sometimes difficult to spot errors in your own writing, so you should consider showing a copy to a friend, parent or teacher to get their feedback.
